Fall Suiting

I have noticed that many women in powerful positions typically wear one color from head to toe, no matter how bold the color.

I remember the first time I saw Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. She was wearing a bright red suit with matching pumps. I can’t remember if she had a handbag or not, but I was awestruck.

There is something about a woman in a bold colored suit that exudes confidence. It shows you are comfortable being the center of attention because you know what you have to say matters.

I say this to encourage you to wear bright colors at work. Too often we thing black = seriousness but I don’t believe that to be true. Women have always used the power of color to control and tell a narrative. When Secretary of State Clinton conceded to Donald Trump in 2016, she wore a purple suit. Purple, the combination of red and blue, was undoubtably selected to signify that the two political parties and our country needed to peacefully unite and move forward. I am not sure if it worked, but that’s another story for another day.

This brings me to this camel colored suit which is perfect for fall. The warm tone reminds me of fall leaves, pumpkins and caramel lattes.

I will be perfectly honest with you—I have not shopped at New York & Company in YEARS. In fact, I stopped shopping there because I found their quality to be really touch and go. And while some items may be worst than others, their Madie suit is a hit. It’s perfect for both young women just starting their careers and seasoned corporate executives.

I found this suit one night via Instagram ads [yes, I am one of those suckers who actually clicks on those things]. I didn’t have high expectations but decided to take a gamble. I don’t typically buy a lot of polyester blends but I wanted something that was low maintenance and didn’t need to be dry cleaned all the time. According to the care label, it’s machine washable. I haven’t washed it yet to tell you how it holds up. I have had it professionally pressed and it turned out wonderfully.

It runs TTS [true to size] and has great stretch so it moves with your body.  The high waist makes it flattering for most figures and the straight leg [not skinny] balances hips and thighs. The ankle length means you can show off your shoes, which is always a plus.

I love it so much, I ordered it in 3 colors: black [jacket | bottom | heels] , camel [jacket | bottom | heels] and burgundy [jacket | bottom | heels]

In this picture, I paired it with a Zara crop top. Let’s make the professional crop top a thing and not let all the insta-girls have all the fun :) I paired the suit with matching heels which helped elongate my silhouette. My specific heels are Manolo Blahnik ‘BB’ pumps in camel suede.

Isn’t it interesting how women can wear bold and bright colors but men can’t? Every time I see a man in a brown suit, I grimace. This is one time where gender biases work in our favor!

Hello, World!

This isn’t sponsored. I just really like this suit! You will probably see it on the blog a few more times.
